Terms of use
Last updated 2026-09-17. Laser File Check is operated by Smarter Foundry LLC (“we”, “us”). By using it you agree to these terms.
The service
Laser File Check is a free tool. There's no account and no subscription. It is provided “as is” and “as available”: we may change, interrupt or discontinue it at any time, and we don't promise it will be available when you need it.
Automated results, and what they don't mean
Laser File Check is an automated geometry and file preflight aid. It is not a manufacturing certification, a safety certification, or a review of whether a part can or should be made.
The tool works by applying fixed rules to the file you choose. Like any automated analysis or conversion, its results can contain errors and omissions: it can report a problem that isn't there (a false positive), miss one that is (a false negative), render or interpret a file differently from other software, or produce output that isn't compatible with the software, device or vendor you intend to use.
What this tool does not guarantee
A report from Laser File Check, including one with no problems found, doesn't guarantee any of the following:
- that the part can be manufactured, or that it will come out dimensionally accurate
- that the design suits any particular material
- compatibility with any particular laser, CNC machine or control software
- kerf compensation, cut order, or power, speed and focus settings
- the structural integrity or fitness of the finished part
- that every problematic piece of geometry in the file has been found
- that any machine can be operated safely with this file
A file that passes every check is not certified as safe to manufacture. It only means the specific checks described on the how it works page found nothing.
You remain responsible for the job
Whatever the report says, you are responsible for machine setup and operation, material selection, dimensions and tolerances, kerf and process settings, following your machine manufacturer's instructions, and for ventilation, fire precautions and every other safety requirement of the equipment you use. If the tool removes duplicate geometry for you, review the downloaded file before you cut it.
Your responsibilities
- Review everything before you rely on it. Check reports and any file the tool generates yourself, and compare them against the requirements of whoever or whatever will use the file.
- Keep your original files. This is not a backup, archiving, disaster-recovery or storage service, and it keeps no copy of anything you process.
- You decide what to do next. Sending a file to print, cutting or machining material, importing a converted document, or otherwise acting on a result is your decision, and the consequences are yours.
- Use the tool lawfully. Don't attempt to disrupt the site, overload it with automated traffic, or use it for anything unlawful.
Not professional advice
Nothing on this site, and no result it produces, is professional engineering, manufacturing, printing, safety, legal or other professional advice. If a decision needs professional judgement, get it from a qualified professional.
Your files and your rights
You keep all rights to your files. We don't claim ownership of them and we don't ask for a licence to them, because the file's contents are processed by code running in your browser and are not sent to us (see the privacy page).
By using the tool you confirm that you own the files you process or are otherwise authorised to process them. The only permission you give us is the technical one needed to run the tool in your browser at your request.
Warranty disclaimer
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the service and everything it produces are provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We specifically disclaim any warranty of accuracy, completeness, reliability, compatibility, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we do not warrant that any output will satisfy the requirements of a particular printer, machine, software package or vendor. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain disclaimers, and nothing here removes a warranty that can't legally be disclaimed.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for any loss arising out of or relating to your use of the service or your reliance on its results, including: lost or corrupted files or data; reprints; wasted paper, ink, material or stock; failed or spoiled production runs; damaged workpieces, tools or equipment; machine downtime; and lost profits, revenue or business opportunity.
Where we are liable to you, our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, such as liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that applicable law does not allow to be excluded. If applicable law gives you rights that these terms can't override, those rights still apply.
Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of the service belongs in the state or federal courts serving Smarter Foundry LLC's principal place of business in California.
If you use the service as a consumer, this doesn't take away rights or protections that the law where you live gives you and that can't be waived by agreement, including any right to bring a claim in your local courts.
